Challenge Details

The Mississippi Challenge is a test of your will to complete a virtual row from Chicago (or St. Louis for a slightly shorter path) to New Orleans. The path meanders down the river covering 2,136,075 meters (or from St. Louis 1,588,141 meters). This challenge runs from September 1, 2021 through January 31, 2022.

You can sign up as a solo rower, in pairs, quads, or as many as you like. Awards will given for top rowers in solos, pairs, and quads for the Chicago leg and for solo in the St. Louis leg. If your team has three members, you will qualify as a quad. If you have more than four members, you and your team will be eligible for a medal, but no award for top rowers. All teammates’ meters contribute towards the team’s total.

Beginning September 3rd, we will only accept registrations for solo participants.

  • To form a team:

    • First, the “team captain” must sign up and provide a team name through the registration process

    • Then, teammates can join the team in two ways. Either of these methods will ensure that the teammate ends up on the correct team:

      • Sign up through the link sent to the team captain in the Welcome Email, or

      • Sign up through the registration form using the team captain’s confirmation number.

  • If you wish to add additional participants to your team after the start, it may disqualify your team from awards. This will have to be considered on a case by case basis.

Social

  • Rowers will be encouraged to join our facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/rowerswithoutborders

  • Participants are also encouraged, but not required, to make a nominal donation to Doctors without Borders.

  • The race will run from September 1st to January 30th and awards will be sent out soon after.

  • On a weekly basis, a Google Meeting will be set up if you wish to row live to see other rowers who are participating. Meeting times are going to be determined by high volume times. Weekly emails will sent out to introduce rowers, highlight weekly achievements and maybe even talk a little bit about life on the river.
