Border Rowers

Border Rowers River Challenges are an annual opportunity to row along the rivers of the world from your erg at home. Each year, we will collaborate with RESPORT (the software team that managed US Rowing’s Great Lakes Challenge) to chart the course along a new river, and we’re hoping you’ll row along with us! Log daily meters rowed to track your individual progress along the course, watch your distance grow on the map, and check how you stack up in the rankings. Border Rowers River Challenges will each last 5 months (September 1-January 31), and the goal is to row as far as you can down the river during that time. Some will row the entire river, but we’ll all have a blast!

If you’d prefer to tackle this challenge as a team, feel free to register as a group of family, friends, or a pair. There will be two separate leaderboards for those completing the challenge independently, and those participating as part of a team.

As always, we’ll be moderating online chatter on our Facebook page, and Bryan will write his famous weekly emails to build community and document the journey along the way. While this challenge emphasizes individuality—row when you want, at your own pace—we’ll also have opportunities to get to know each other virtually through meetups, email introductions and more.

Border Rowers Relay Challenges are an annual opportunity to row as part of a competitive virtual team relay. Each year, participants will be divided into equal teams based on individual rowing skill and schedule availability. One rower per team can row at a time, but don’t worry if your team can’t fill all the shifts in a day, it’s ok! For each shift, rowers will log into our virtual Google meeting while wearing their team color, row virtually alongside rowers from the other teams, and log their meters at the end. We’ll host a leaderboard so teams can scope out the competition, and the team that completes the challenge first wins.

The Border Rowers Facebook page will offer an active community space throughout the challenge, and we will also host an interactive rower bio page on our Rower Hub so we can all get to know each other better. Bryan will write weekly emails detailing the status of the competition, running some stats, and guiding teams through the competition. This challenge emphasizes teamwork over speed or power.
